Leeds

After my crit with Andy, i did some further research into what we discussed about including elements of leeds to our surface designs as we are designing for 'Best Leeds' vintage store.

Here are a few different paths that i could explore in terms of what i could photograph in leeds...

Statues

Museums

Land Marks

Other possible paths

  • famous people from/in Leeds
  • Buildings in Leeds
  • Flowers or animals in Leeds
  • Shops in Leeds
  • History of Leeds
  • Anglo Saxons
  • Royal armouries

Collaboration

Double Exposure photography , an excellent method of creating a strange form and mixture of colour

Collaboration

Some amazing Textile patterns applied to material and beautifully photographed on a model for a fashion shoot for Modern love.

Modern love is a collaboration with Kim Hunt. Sold through Liberty of London and other select stockists.
I love these colourful geometric patterns , i like how the geometrics are contradicted by an element of liquid like visuals. The choice of colour is breathtaking , so confusing yet easy on the eye.
The power of the model is expressed through the pattern on the garments , and the bold capital font over the images suit this concept well!
I love the combination of clean cut capital typefaces overlapping such striking images.

Fern and Moss

Fern and moss is a blog that i like browsing through now and again.
Their archive mostly includes photography , mixed media , pieces of vintage art.
I love the colours that are captured in some of their photography, it makes the photograph hard to make out , but i like that as it creates a window in you're imagination.
It reminds me of the marbling effect i was producing the other day using nail varnish.

Illustration

Thinking about mixed media now for our textile designs.
Using photography, illustration and collage to create a really nice piece of design that can be applied to various garments within our range at the store.

Although we need to consider how we can use leeds as a base for our photography. Maybe look into the history of the city and use images from that concept to apply to colour.

Marbling with nail polish

Looking of ways to capture colour movement, i have done this technique with my nails before but i was wondering if i could try to transfer the polish onto paper of some kind of larger surfaces as Frankie and i are wanting to create some colourful textiles as a base for our patterns.

Marbling with nail varnish

These are some interesting pieces of promotional material for metallic nail varnishes.
Some interesting things happening with colours.
The top images almost looks space like, which is a subject we were thinking about looking into as we like the colours captured in the Nasa images.
The motion of the colour mixing looks like its been captured like the marbling effect shown in one of my previous posts.
I might look into experimenting with nail varnishes myself to see if it works as well as inks.

Tie Dye

Tie dying straight onto fabric is another technique we could look at, below is a photograph of a technique me and a friend tried in college, using sharpie pends and alcohol to dye the t-shirt in circular motions using plastic cups.

Ink in water

alberto seveso.
Another effect of capturing colour in motion is photographing ink in water... this is also another technique we want to explore.
